Mathematics teaching and learning come to life in these highly innovative and engaging courses. Our courses in this subject area demonstrate sequenced activities that promote conceptual understanding and relate concrete understanding to symbolic interpretation, techniques to assess students' understanding of skills and concepts, and approaches to adjusting instruction in response to assessment. Educators will learn to facilitate activities that address pattern recognition and operational procedures including whole numbers, that provide creative practice with operational skills, and that promote number sense, estimation strategies, and foundational understanding. All lessons reinforce the goal of teaching students to apply their knowledge of underlying concepts to determine the most appropriate and efficient problem-solving strategies.
